Step Forward - 2007

SFFL Visit to London

The three senior directors of SFFL visited London spending a week discussing and developing their management structure and future programme. This focussed on model systems of drawing up plans and monitoring performance with key performance indicators to measure progress. Bringing these systems up to date and making them as efficient and effective as possible has become ever more pressing with the introduction of a Social Enterprise Programme and the rapid expansion of the work in general of the SFFL.

STEP are working with the SFFL in the many areas of new social enterprise initiatives to which SFFL have committed themselves including  boat-building, where 40 foot and 50 foot fishing boats are now to be produced, a small printing business, and two restaurants. All of these enterprises will not only make a financial contribution to the work of the SFFL but each also offers unique training opportunities – the very heart of our work.

During their stay the SFFL directors were guests at the London Wetland Centre where they were able to study this ecologically important initiative.

They were also able to visit and learn about the “Training for Life” initiative in Britain, an organisation which does work which is similar in many ways to the work of the SFFL in Sri Lanka.
