Literacy rate differs according to the ratios of 68 % male and 71 %
female in the fisheries areas and also in inland fishing areas.
(SFFL Socio-economic survey 2006) The national average is 91 percent female and
90 percent male. 11 percent in age 10-18 Children do not attend the
schools in the coastal districts. Child labour within the family
circle is very high due to poverty. This is one cause for the school
drop outs. At schools, the facilities are also very rudimentary. The
children in the schools are idle at most of the time due to poor
attendance of the teachers. No proper desks and chairs for the
children. No properly set up vocational training centres are in the
coastal districts, except Government technical collages and one or
two NGO sector vocational training centres. But these centres also
lack basic vocational education facilities. |
